Do you realise we have some 3000 species of ants in Australia? These tiny social insects prefer to live in permanent nests, which they create in the soil, wood or even among rocks! As interesting as they are, they can be pretty annoying; especially when they try to crash your picnic. You can find them frequently around the home, like in foundations, walls, kitchens, bathrooms and gardens.

Different Types of Ants 

Here are some of the more common varieties of ants you may come across:

• Small Brown Ant: 1.5-3mm long, light brown to brown, non metallic and 1 node.

• Coastal Brown Ant: 1.5-2mm and yellowish-brown, two raised nodes.

• Singapore Ant: They are 2-3mm in size, light to reddish brown with a darker abdomen and two rounded nodes.

• Black House Ant: The common small ant - about 2-3mm in length.

• Bull Ant: Bigger at 8-10mm, they are red or orange and can pack a punch!

Effective Ant Control Treatments  

If you’re contending with ants in your house, we use low-toxic bait that ants take back to their nest and share with their entire colony, including the queen. If you are seeing ants outside, treat there as well!

Preparation Tips  

Before we go, here are a few friendly reminders:

• Do not spray or disrupt the ants' trails.

• Wipe countertops and under appliances for any food scraps.

• Wipe the open jars of honey or sugar.
